kkk Art direction and Photography for Lela Scherrer's Spring-Summer collection 2010

Swiss born fashion designer Lela Scherrer established her independent atelier in Antwerp/Basel in 2002. Ever since her work has expressed a strong creative urge to integrate the complementary influences of her background: contemporary and traditional, local and foreign, craftsmanlike and industrial elements become her source of inspiration. Combined with the profound technical knowledge of a tailor and her experience as a costume designer various approaches fuse into Lela’'s distinctive and versatile style of creation.

The Kodak City | [Swiss Federal Prize of Design 2008]
Together with the steps I took to visit photographers' studios, it was essential for me to visit Rochester in the Northeastern part of the State of New York, to take a closer look at the headquarters of the Eastman Kodak group and the Kodak’s giant industrial park.

Many questions were at the heart of this desire of mine: What were the consequences of the technological digital reform for the Eastman Kodak group ? What is left today of the infrastructures that were dedicated to the manufacture of film and photo paper? How did the group react to the sudden onset of digital techonology? What were the consequences on the City of Rochester called "The Kodak City"?

Clearly photography is following a new road, and its future seems to be digital. By revealing the sites in which the traditional practice of photography evolved in a way, and by documenting the sites in which new technology is growing in the other way, my desire is to question the Photography’s very future but also to keep in memory what belongs / or will soon belong to the past. The Kodak City, MIP 2009
6e Mois International Photo, Dol-de-Bretagne, France | June 6 – June 21

Opening Reception:
Saturday, June 6, from 5:30 p.m.

Milledrogues.

The Kodak City | [Bourse Fédérale de Design 2008]

HORS-CHAMP "OFF-CAMERA" at Aperture Gallery in New-York
October 27 – November 3 2008

Opening Reception:
Monday, October 27, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Catherine Leutenegger, the winner of the
Raymond Weil Club Photography competition 2007
will exhibit a selection of prints from her serie Hors-champ at the Aperture Gallery.

“ Hors-Champ” (“Off-camera”):“Hors-Champ” (“Off-camera”) is an invitation to discover a place that often remains unknown: where photographs are made—workshops and studios, darkrooms, development and print labs. The work behind the illusion so meticulously crafted by photographers in their studios is indeed rarely revealed. The realization of this project arises from a personal desire to explore, behind-the-scenes, the world of professionals in the photography field in my region, at a point in time when, obviously, photography is undergoing a deep change both in its technical aspects and its esthetical ones. In this digitalized age, what really occurs behind-the-scenes? What will become of studios and traditional photo labs? “Off-camera” is an homage to photography, its history and to the creators of images, and encourages the viewer to reflect on the future of this medium of communication.

Exhibition on view:
Monday, October 27, 2008 — Monday, November 03, 2008
